Short answer: Omnia Fishing is closing at the end of October 2026. Sources disagree on the exact day (Oct 30 or Oct 31), so if you saved waypoints in Omnia, export or write them down today rather than waiting.
Omnia gave lake anglers a place to keep their spots for years, and plenty of people have a season or more of waypoints stored there. This guide only covers one thing: getting those spots saved somewhere you control before the account goes away. For a broader look at what Omnia users lose and how to keep planning trips, see our Omnia Fishing alternative guide.
When exactly does Omnia Fishing shut down?
The sources don't agree, so plan for the earlier date:
- Oct 31, 2026: Angling International reported the app and website go dark at the end of October (Angling International). Omnia's customer email, as read aloud on the podcast Ep. 372 - R.I.P. Omnia Fishing, says: "The app and website will go dark on Saturday, October 31st, 2026. After that date, you will not be able to log in or reach your account." (podcast transcript)
- Oct 30, 2026: i-Boating, a chart app company, says Omnia shuts down Oct 30 (gpsnauticalcharts.com).
Either way, you have days, not weeks. Don't count on the last day working.
Does Omnia Fishing let you export waypoints?
Omnia's own team described an export feature. In Omnia's "Know Your Holes" waypoint video, co-founder and CTO Dan Wick says you can organize your waypoints and "then export those out," with "support for the major manufacturers to import those in" (Omnia video). In an earlier Omnia video (June 2024), he said export would use "a standardized format" (Omnia video).
We could not confirm the exact file format or button names from an Omnia page. Omnia's help center articles on waypoints were returning "not found" when we checked on Oct 26, 2026. A third-party guide says the export is a GPX file (see below).
How do I export my Omnia waypoints as a GPX file?
These steps come from a third-party guide by i-Boating (source). We could not verify them against Omnia's own instructions, so treat the menu names as approximate:
- Sign in to Omnia, ideally on a computer in a web browser. Omnia's team has recommended desktop for managing lots of waypoints (Omnia video).
- Open your waypoint list. Omnia describes a waypoints icon in the lower left of the map (same source).
- Look for an Export Waypoints option (unverified).
- Save the export as a GPX (.gpx) file (format per i-Boating; unverified with Omnia).
- Save it somewhere you'll find later: your computer's Downloads folder, the Files app on iPhone, or Downloads on Android.
If you filter by lake before exporting, you may only export that lake. Omnia's waypoint list supports filters by waterbody, date, and waypoint type (Omnia video), so clear filters if you want everything.
How do I check that my GPX file actually saved my spots?
- Open it. A GPX file is plain text. Open it in any text editor and you should see entries with
lat=andlon=values and your waypoint names. - Count them. Compare the number of entries to what you see in Omnia.
- Make two copies. Keep one on your computer and one in cloud storage or email it to yourself.
What if the export button isn't there or doesn't work?
Don't wait on it. Save what you can by hand:
- Screenshot your map views and waypoint list, lake by lake.
- Copy coordinates. Omnia shows latitude and longitude for each waypoint (Omnia video). Paste them into a spreadsheet with the name, lake, and your notes.
- Contact Omnia at the support address on their site before the shutdown date.
Where can I use my GPX file after Omnia closes?
GPX is a common, open format, and Omnia said its export targeted the major in-dash electronics brands. Check your fish finder's or chart app's own instructions for importing GPX; steps differ by brand and model, so we won't list them here.
